Mission Statement

The Township of Union Community Garden is a nonprofit membership organization of professionals, volunteers and supporters of community greening in urban communities. The ToUCG recognizes that community gardening improves people’s quality of life by providing a catalyst for neighborhood and community development, stimulating social interaction, encouraging self-reliance, beautifying neighborhoods, producing nutritious food, reducing family food budgets, conserving resources and creating opportunities for recreation, exercise, therapy and education.

Description

The Township of Union Community Garden is open to all residents of Union. For $25 a year, residents can lease a bed and grow whatever vegetables or flowers they wish. The gardeners are responsible for the upkeep of their own beds but we also ask that they put in 4 hours a year helping out the garden as a whole. We have scheduled work parties where gardeners and other volunteers show up to socialize and get things done. The work parties are where the "community" part of community garden really shines. While the beds are only for lease for Union residents we welcome volunteers from anywhere to come help out.
