To equip our students with the tools necessary to return to their communities as effective LEADers.
LEAD is designed to integrate into this critical time of a student’s development as a game-changer in the way belief-systems are turned positive for a group of kids who live with an unconscionable amount of negativity. LEAD bases its guiding principles on three tenets necessary for thriving leadership in our communities; Vision, Empathy, and Tenacity.
Mentoring with LEAD was one of the most amazing, gratifying and fun experiences I have ever had. The program's approach of working with middle school kids to teach them to go beyond what society tells them they can do and to change their perspectives on their capabilities is both fruitful and effective. As a mentor, you get to know the kids on a personal level and can actively see their change in mentality as you talk to them and work on the LEAD activities. You also realize how an act as basic as moral support and guidance can make such a big difference in their lives. Plus, it's a really fun experience since you spend most of your time simply hanging out with the kids. I recommend LEAD to anyone interested in working with Houston's youth!
It appears that the society we live in today is mass-producing followers to the point that strong leaders have seriously become an endangered population. In the dark cloud of it all, it lifts my spirit to know that there is an organization that exists and is lighting the path for our sometimes lost adolescent community. As a long time community activist, I’ve witnessed the positive impact this organization has had on their young member's lives, and I would encourage anyone who cares about their future to follow their LEAD.
