Mission Statement
To engage the people of Texas in critical reflection on their individual and collective lives by providing opportunities for lifelong learning in the humanities.
Description
The TCH, established in 1972, is a private non-profit state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The TCH: 1) encourages communities in all regions of Texas to sponsor public programs in the humanities, 2) furthers teaching of the humanities in the elementary and secondary schools of Texas, 3) provides exhibits and other resources to organizations and institutions sponsoring programs in the humanities, using new technologies that expand opportunities for lifelong learning in the humanities, 4) acts in the public interest as a leader in advocating the humanities, spreading awareness of their significance in education and public life, 5) fosters new scholarship in the public humanities and creates an enduring body of work, and 6) maintains and develops new human and financial resources for the humanities.
