To increase the impact Black residents have in the community through collaboration, partnerships, awareness and visibility.
Fit Oshkosh’s vision and goal is to increase the Racial Literacy of the residents in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, as well as throughout the state and elsewhere in the nation. Our Racial Literacy Education includes training, workshops and facilitated community and small group conversations, in addition to advocacy work surrounding race, racial literacy, and social justice. Racial Literacy is using skills to address the issues and implications of race in conversations and other social interactions. Those skills do not develop by accident. Like any set of skills, it requires learning and practice. Having conversations and interactions that address race increases those skills. We all need to learn new information and new skills in order to operate effectively in a global economy. People who discuss race in authentic ways increase their racial literacy.
