Our mission is to improve the quality of life for opportunity youth by providing access to quality classical music education through the use of native instruments that represent diverse cultural backgrounds We strive to increase learning proficiency through educational and learning programs that leverage the discipline of classical music, and addressing our community audiences through public performances, community outreach events, and cultural advocacy.
INTAKE (Instrumentally Native Taking on the classics) is an emerging Stamford-based non-profit organization that promotes music education through multiculturalism and native instruments, founded in 2011 by Angelica Durrell. Since its inaugural year, INTAKE has grown to include six major initiatives: Native Instrument Academy Annual Gala Concert International Women’s Day Concert INTAKE Ensemble International Composition Partnership Native Instrument Collection INTAKE’s core educational program, the Native Instrument Academy, aims to strengthen our local communities by making classical music and native instruments relevant, accessible, and inclusive. Hosted in historical downtown Stamford (at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation), this 38-session music program is entering its fifth year of successful programming.
