COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE Roles and Responsibilities The role of the Communications Committee is to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy for Public Art Reston in alignment with organization mission and values. The Committee supports staff with overseeing a consistent and active communications strategy that drives engagement with stakeholders and community members. Strategic initiatives center around brand messaging and awareness; media relations; content creation for digital channels (social media, website, e-newsletter); database management; fundraising campaigns; and outreach efforts. Committee Members are expected to attend monthly Committee meetings and volunteer on-site for programming and public events (as available). Ideally, a Committee Member will be proactive, passionate, and energetic in their support of communications strategy implementation. The Communications Committee is composed of both Board Members and non-Board Members. All Committee Members should have a background in marketing, development, graphic design, media, community engagement, communications, or public relations and should have excellent written and verbal communications skills. This may result from any combination of education, professional work, and/or volunteer experience. Responsibilities Contribute expertise to assist staff in establishing marketing, branding and communications initiatives in alignment with mission and public programming. Develop branded marketing outreach strategies that take a creative approach to building relationships with and driving engagement from new and existing stakeholders across local industries and sectors. Advise staff on best practices for creating, distributing, and promoting print and digital marketing communications (e.g., social media, press releases). Maintain and build relationships with industry partners and members of the press in conjunction with staff efforts. Identify opportunities to partner with existing or implement new public art events in alignment with Public Art Reston’s mission; make connections to support the advancement of these events and programming. Maintain the integrity and increase the visibility of the Public Art Reston brand. Incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies into all strategic planning and communications initiatives to ensure a welcoming, accessible environment as well as encouraging appreciation of and support for public art from stakeholders and community members.

Public Art Reston works with community organizations and developers to commission permanent and temporary public art in Reston. Public Art Reston was founded in 2007 and is the first unincorporated community in the United States to have adopted a public art master plan - the "Public Art Master Plan for Reston". Public Art Reston also offers artists talks, documentary public art film screenings, community engagement activities.
