Our outreach library volunteers provide library materials and services to home-bound individuals, and residents of congregate and nursing housing who are unable to come to the Fargo Public Library due to mental, physical, sensory or social disability. Qualifications: Submit volunteer application and agreement and sign Inquiry Release Form. Be at least 18 years old and have the ability to read and write English at a 12th grade level. Be able to bend, push, pull, stretch, reach and lift 40 pounds consistently. Ability to be sensitive, patient, understanding and respectful of clients’ situation and needs. Willingness to be creative, flexible, enthusiastic and have a sense of humor. Have good communication, listening and organizational skills. Willingness to commit to a consistent delivery schedule. Responsible to: Outreach Librarian and Volunteer Coordinator Responsibilities: Successfully complete training program. Select, check out and deliver library materials to an assigned facility or client once or twice a month on a regular schedule. Return used materials to the circulation area to be checked in and shelved. Meet reporting requirements including monthly reports on hours of service, items delivered and materials used. If you are unable to make a delivery for any reason, notify Outreach Librarian immediately. Time Commitment: After initial training, then 3-5 hours (for each distribution) to prepare and deliver materials, usually every other week. FARGO PUBLIC LIBRARY VOLUNTEER PROGRAM Carlson Bookstore Volunteer Job Description Importance of Position: Organization and maintenance of Friends’ bookstore at Carlson library. Qualifications: Submit volunteer application and agreement and sign a background Inquiry Release Form. Be 18 years of age or older, and have the ability to read and write English at a 12 th grade level. Be able to bend, push, pull, stretch, reach and lift 40 pounds consistently. Ability to be sensitive, patient, understanding and respectful with staff and patrons. Willingness to be creative, flexible, enthusiastic and have a sense of humor. Have good communication, listening and organizational skills. Willingness to commit to a consistent schedule. Responsible to: Branch Manager Responsibilities: Successfully complete training program. Sort and research donated items. Organize and maintain Friends’ book sale items and area. Process discarded items; box and label books we donate to other agencies. Meet monthly reporting requirements including hours of service, item counts. If you are unable to appear for work for any reason, notify Branch Manager immediately. Our indoor plant volunteers assist library by keeping the plants in the public areas (and some in specific staff areas) in good health, making the library a more pleasant place for both staff and patrons to enjoy. Qualifications: Green thumb required. Previous plant care experience is a plus. Willingness to commit to a consistent schedule. Responsible to: Outreach Librarian and Volunteer Coordinator Branch Manager at Carlson Responsibilities: Maintenance of all indoor plants not directly belonging to / being cared for by specific staff. Watering, pruning, fertilizing, repotting as necessary. Requesting materials such as fertilizer or potting soil as needed. Arrangement of library personal back up in volunteer’s absence.
