Mission Statement

The purpose of Animal Welfare Assistance Group ("AWAG") is to promote the welfare of, and reduce the number of surrendered and abandoned companion animals in Monterey County. To do this, AWAG (i) educates the public about available spay and neutering programs for companion animals and provides financial assistance to disadvantaged pet owners/guardians for spay and neutering services, (ii) educates the public about reduced-cost veterinary care available, and provides financial assistance to disadvantaged and responsible owners and guardians of companion animals, (iii) provides pet food and supplies to disadvantaged and responsible owners and guardians of companion animals, including, without limitation, disabled veterans, owners of service animals, and low income seniors, families, and individuals, (iv) develops and operates additional programs that fill the gaps in animal care and welfare services in Monterey County.

Description

We strive to keep pets out of shelters and rescues and in loving homes. Since 1978, our services have assisted economically disadvantaged and responsible Monterey County pet guardians with : Veterinary care, Low cost or free spay & neuter, Microchips & vaccinations, Pet food & supplies and Information & resources on responsible pet care. We also supply the local shelters with free microchips for all of the stray dogs and cats who are returned to their owners.
