Mission Statement
Dreamchaser PMU Rescue and Rehabilitation, Inc. was formed in order to rescue Premarin mares and foals from slaughter. We have the mares and/or foals transported from Canada to our ranch in New River. We then bring them up to good health, gentle them, teach them haltering, leading, standing for the vet and farrier, and ultimately adopt them out into permanent, loving, experienced homes. The mares deemed unsuitable for training as riding horses remain at the ranch for their lifetimes, in order to protect them from being re-bred.
Our mission also includes educating the public about the methods used to capture uringe from pregnant mares in order to create the drug known as Premarin. Premarin is one of the most common drugs sold in the world. Thousands of mares have suffered and continue to suffer for this drug.
In addition, our mission is to educate chidren, especially underprivileged children, about the value of horses in their lives, and about the care and training involved with maintaining horses. We anticipate eventually having a riding program for these children, complete with campouts at our ranch, using Premarin mares and foals that we hav trained ourselves with gentleness and love.
Description
We are currently supporting 54 horses on our five acres in New River. We have 21 stalls, three turnouts, and two round pens. We are at capacity, and are struggling financially. The horses are all in good health, though we do have some with physical issues and who need special care. We are currently gentling 9 horses who have come from feedlots and are very wild and scared.
We are an all volunteer organization, founded by Susan and Jamie Thompson, who live at the ranch and do all the gentling and training.
