Mission Statement

Our Mission Statement

Virginia's House is designed to provide a family atmosphere for the person who need shelter during trying times. For the person or family who has been a victim of domestic violence. We will seek out a meet with abused women and men with children who are currently homeless. The families must have a vision and goal of ownership. Virginia's House will offer guidance and assistance on acquiring permanent low-income housing or home.

Our Passion

Virginia's House was molded and named in honor of my mother, Virginia Askew. She was a woman who's door was always open to those in need be they friend or foe or stranger. She had a kind word or joke to enlighten their load. She was known as "mama" or Miss Virge" to the neighborhood. she gave words of encouragement for the spirit, food for the soul and shelter for the body. I can not fill my mothers shoes but I have the passion she had to help those in need, so I am content to "walk behind" the foot prints she left in the sand.

Description

Virginia's House has been in existence since January 13Th, for two years. We are a tax-exempt 501(c3) organization. Virginia's House have been very busy and was successful at our first attempt at providing a renovated home to a low-income family!

In addition; we have been featured in The Chicago Sun-Times news paper which explained that we were trying to provide low-income housing for victims of domestic violence using our personal funds. Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr., have applauded and supports our efforts. We are also members of Chicago Minority Business Development, Council, Inc.

Moreover, We attend several functions of organizations which provide us information on how to apply for grants, ask for funding and network with others etc. We attended the Supportive Housing Providers Association which is in coalition with Chicago Alliance To End Homelessness. We are awaiting confirmation of our membership to both organizations. We are on committees as well.

In order to achieve our mission of securing properties to be renovated into shelters for victims of domestic violence, we are calling, writing and sending e-mails looking for support, sponsorship, donations and partnerships.

We are very busy and need someone who is like minded and goal oriented. You must have drive and be a critical thinker. Virginia's House is very serious about it's SUCCESS and the SUCCESS of our future residents and programs.
