Mission Statement
UCCC's Mission:
The University City Children's Center is a nonprofit United Way agency committed to providing quality care and innovative education to a racially, ethnically, soci-economically, and developmentally diverse population between the ages of six weeks and six years in a nurturing environment that provides supportive services to families.
Our Vision:
Our vision is to create a new paradigm in early childhood education that creates systemic change for children and families.
Description
We serve children in a year-round, full day program.
Educational Philosophy:
UCCC uses literacy as the vehicle for understanding the psychodynamic nature of chiuldren and to reinforce developmental core values in children. Participation and education of parents are crucial for sytemic change. We develop resillence in parents by enhancing their social connections and knowledge of child development, and by providing concrete support to provide a sense of community. Strong teachers are the cornerstone of the program. UCCC faculty view a child's behavior as phenomenon to understand, understand him/herself to understand children and families, and understand that the relationship between a family and school is the root of powerful change.
