Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
The purpose of the Flagstaff Community Band shall be to:
A. Provide free band and ensemble concerts to the Flagstaff community;
B. Provide education associated with the band's music;
C. Use band concerts to promote local government service programs and/or businesses; and
D. Provide musicians in the community the opportunity to participate with other musicians in structured rehearsals and performances of challenging musical compositions.
The Flagstaff Community is an all volunteer band that plays twelve concerts from May into September in parks throughout the city. Our concert format is to Play for 20 to 30 minutes, turn the microphone over to a government service agency or nonprofit organization to permit them to "pitch" their program and the play for another 20 to 30 minutes. Each piece is introduced by a comment by the conductor regarding the uniqueness of the piece so that the audience has a kind of guide for listening. At the end of the concert, a small cadre of musicians will remain to demonstrate their instruments and answer question.
The band's music is composed of marches, show tunes and specialty band pieces. Must concerts are on Sunday afternoon. All concerts are informal and free. Roughly half of our concerts are presented in conjunction with another community organization. The remaining half are in neighborhood parks as a part of a music outreach program.
The cost of living in Flagstaff, about 20% higher than the national average, creates additional stress for the Flagstaff community. The band's music is stress reducing by its nature, and additionally to allowing low and middle income residents to stretch their entertainment dollars.
