For the Children of the World

Description

Our organization of volunteers and host families brings children of Belarus to the Puget Sound area each summer for health respites. The children stay with their host families for 6 weeks to enjoy fresh air, fresh food, and summer fun. The host families find volunteer dentists to examine and treat the children. We also provide a health screening and thyroid check. The host families send the children home with clothing and supplies for the school year and winter to help not only that child, but also their families who are often impoverished. This area of Belarus is still contamintated by the Chernobyl nuclear accident. The economy is extremely week. The children grow up with little hope for their futures. They also benefit from the rest they get from the daily stuggle to survive and help their families survive.
