Description
The Carolyn Eynon Singers (CES) is a 24-member volunteer chorus performing North American choral music. Founded in 2007, the choir's repertoire features the music of Broadway, folk, patriotic, jazz, sacred holiday and spirituals, often adding strings, winds, brass, percussion and guitar. Recent performance venues have included churches, businesses and professional venues such as the Tempe Center for the Arts, Phoenix Center for the Arts and the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. The choir also recently performed with Susan Boyle (Britain's Got Talent) at the Orpheum Theater in Phoenix, and in Tucson with the Southwest Women's Choir. Guest artists including Charles Lewis, Shannon Wallace, Bruce Pulk, and other local talents have performed alongside CES. The choir has also commissioned new works each year. CES is a 501(c)3 depending on ticket sales, donations and sponsorship to offset its operating expenses. Singers and other committed volunteers handle ticket sales, ushering and concert promotions. The only paid staff member is the subcontracted accompanist, while concert raffles and CD sales generate income for instrumentalists' fees. Volunteers are also very important for CES's media and social networking efforts. Volunteer opportunities include volunteer management, writing (marketing, advertising, public relations), graphic design (posters, post cards, tickets), e-mail creation and mailing list administration, and Facebook page management. The 2015 season includes a three-concert series with additional performances with the Rotary Club and at local high schools. CES always strives to include the younger generation in its concerts, both via its repertoire and via reduced or free tickets to children under age 18. Partnerships with organizations like Rosie's House have allowed children from families who could not afford tickets to attend concerts.
