Mission Statement

The purpose of this museum is preserve, restore and protect the Fire Fighter as a National Historic Landmark Vessel. By doing so, the crew intend to provide opportunities for visitors to get a glimpse of 1938 marine and firefighting technology firsthand. As an educational and recreational vessel, the museum plans to extend its services to non-profit groups who are underserved through boat rides, dockside events and youth after school programming. Furthermore, our motto is "every child should get a ride on a fireboat" and we will purposely seek groups who aid children with illnesses and disabilities to hopefully create memories and give them hope. Lastly, we hope to connect with all the FDNY veterans and active members; to make them a part of the family at the museum and help us to interpret its past.

Description

Currently FFFM is working toward its mission in its infant stages by preserving and retsoring the vessel with volunteers and donated materials. Additionally, visitors and toursist in the Greenport area can be given a guided tour of the vessel during most weekends April through November. Grant writing and fund raising is ongoing to take the vessel and the museum to the next level as a travelling museum seeking to achieve many of the goals stated above.
