VIND is a coalition of faith-based organizations, partnered with allied agencies and each other, which promotes networking to prepare Volusia County, Fl communities for the effects of disaster, and in the aftermath, facilitates spiritual and long-term practical aid. VIND's purpose in uniting interfaith organizations, agencies, businesses, and individuals is to minimize duplication of services and utilize resources combined with a spirit of community volunteerism to most effectively serve Volusia County.
VIND is a long term recovery agency that assists low-income homeowners (usually the elderly, disabled, single parent) with repairing their homes after disaster. These are residents whose homes for the most part were already in disrepair due to the deferred maintenance that the homeowners could not afford to make. Most of these residents are uninsured or underinsured and once a disaster strikes, they are not able to do what is necessary to complete the repairs to their homes, subsequently they deteriorate even more.
VIND usually becomes involved, after the resident has received any immediate assistance available and they have done all they can do in their own recovery. Extensive case management is done to confirm the issues surrounding the situation and the need. After this is completed the client's case is presented to the rebuild committee and voted upon for assistance.
