Art :: Culture :: Progress
Painting Out Poverty (POP) is an independent group in the District of Columbia. Based activists, artists, and students coming together to use art as a means to fight poverty in the DC community.
To unite artists in a fight against poverty in DC neighborhoods. Through sharing our paintings, music, poetry, and other arts, we hope to collectively end disparities in the community.
Painting Out Poverty is thrilled to announce the kick off of our efforts to fight and reduce poverty in SWxSE DC with our 1st Annual POP Art Kick Off Show: The Healing Power of Art. The purpose of this event is to discuss how art is a powerful means of communication in social injustice issues around DC, as well as it is to showcase art that brings light to social injustice and poverty issues around the DC area.
This event will feature key organizations around DC that are using the arts to fight poverty and/or social injustice. We will learn more about what they are doing, how art has made an impact, and what the next steps are in this community to see a continued impact on the community.
We will then hear from a few special speakers that have a personal story about how art has healed and picked them up and out of difficult life situations and what that can mean for each of us on a personal level.
We will then open up with our special musical performances and the art gallery that features local and regional artists that use their craft and art to talk about poverty, social injustice, and hope.
