More Than Carpentry Christian Ministries (MTC) moved to Wellston in 2006, with an initial primary focus on building the Cabinetmaking Apprenticeship Program. Three classes graduated from the 18-week model, and since the restructuring to a one-year model, there has been greater interest expressed from the community and a fourth class will begin once funding is secured.

During the initial years in Wellston, MTC staff and volunteers consistently saw the need for additional resources and services in this low-income, urban community. Outreach through MTC’s Annual Fall Festivals has led to important partnerships with local organizations and churches, in addition to providing a safe and fun event for Wellston families. MTC has also built a demonstration Community Garden, to encourage Wellston families to make use of the larger community garden that will be a part of the St. Vincent Greenway that is being built through Wellston and will run directly in front of MTC. MTC’s inaugural annual personal financial management course began in January, 2013, teaching and encouraging students to manage their finances wisely. A community "Jobs for Life" course is planned for 2015, and MTC continues to actively pursue partnerships with local churches and organizations in order to create new programs and events that meet the needs of Wellston.
