Mission Statement
The San Diego Eye Bank is a California nonprofit Corporation, dedicated to the preservation and restoration of sight through the collection, processing and distribution of human ocular tissue; progress in medicine through the support of research; the maintenance of an eye center for diagnostic evaluation and therapy; and the sponsorship of educational programs for the medical community and general public.
Description
The San Diego Eye Bank is overseen by a Board of Directors , which consists of ophthalmologists, financial advisors and legal advisors. The San Diego Eye Bank Board of Directors sets the overall policy and direction for the organization in accordance with the organization's mission and the needs of the community.
The San Diego Eye Bank also contributes to the community of San Diego in the following ways:
-Operates an Excimer Laser Center, which serves as an open access center for ophthalmologists and their patients.
-Is an accredited ACCME provider and sponsors continuing medical education programs for ophthalmic medical professionals
-Manages the International Cornea Project, which collects surgical corneas donated by U.S. eye banks and distributes them to ophthalmologists around the world.
The San Diego Eye Bank is a member of the Eye Bank Association of America and is regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
