Mission Statement

The UCSF Center for Educational Partnerships (CEP) was founded in 1999 to encourage students from the San Francisco Bay Area to pursue a college education. It currently works with students and their families in San Francisco, Lake, and Mendocino Counties.

CEP's mission is to actively address educational disparities in its partner communities by providing support to underrepresented and educationally disadvantaged students on their path to higher education and fulfilling careers, especially in the fields of science and health. Imperative in successfully supporting students is the involvement of their families. CEP is committed to family inclusion as a key component of its activities.

Within the population of underrepresented and educationally disadvantaged students and their families, CEP's goals are to:

1. Increase awareness of the link between post-secondary education, economic opportunity, and a fulfilling career.

2. Increase access to post-secondary education.

3. Increase interest in and, ultimately, the proportion choosing a career in, science and the health professions.

Description

CEP coordinates programs and provides services that help students explore academic interests, prepare academically for college, learn how to apply to and finance college, and decide which colleges best fit their academic goals.

When volunteer opportunities for the general population arise, they are listed on VolunteerMatch.com. These include:

Staffing one-day college-going events (Plan on College and MAP to College). These occur bi-annually, on a Saturday; volunteer responsibilities include registration, crowd control, greeting, etc.

Volunteer opportunities specifically for UCSF faculty, staff, and students include:

Guest speakers -- in a K-12 classroom, during a UCSF summer program, or virtually (via two-way videoconference) for students in remote rural areas

Panelists (sharing with youth your own educational path and experiences as a student)

Campus tour guides (showing youth & parents around Parnassus &/or Mission Bay campuses)

Paid or unpaid summer camp counselor/advisor positions (teaching interactive science curricula to youth)

Please contact us if you are a UCSF faculty member, staff member, or student and are interested in getting involved in any of the above opportunties.
