The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Provide the community and surrounding areas with family-oriented entertainment and activities.
Mark your calendars for September 10 to 13, when Midland will again be the host of one of the most popular hot-air balloon festivals in the state!
The overall theme and structure will remain the same with a mix of events for all ages in several locations around the community. The festival kicks off Thursday night in downtown Midland with the Main Street Glow and includes a pilot trading card scavenger hunt for the kids. On Friday morning, balloons and their crews will visit over 20 schools with an educational (and fun) balloon demonstration. Nearly 20,000 spectators will enjoy the mass balloon launches and night glows on Friday and Saturday evenings at the Midland County Fairgrounds. Other main event additions are geared toward the community's children, including trader cards (and autographs), expanded activities area, and bounce houses.
Thanks to generous sponsors-businesses, organizations, and individuals-the Midland Balloon Festival will remain FREE. We will continue by collecting truckloads of nonperishables for the Food Pantry's of Midland County, a tradition that is continuing. You are encouraged to bring a nonperishable gift.
