Mission Statement

Xenophon's mission is to provide a high quality program of therapeutic horseback riding and related activities to disabled children. By providing a safe and stimulating environment, Xenophon seeks to enrich the lives of our students by improving their physical and mental ability, increasing their confidence, and enhancing their self esteem .

Description

Xenophon provides private lessons to 58 students each week. Students come once a week for a 1/2 hour lesson. Volunteers assist with preparation of the lessons and horses (no horse experience is necessary), assist in the lessons as sidewalkers or leaders. The movement of the horse mimics a humans, so children that have physical disabilites are able to strengthen their core muscles and improve their balance in a fun, safe environment. Children with mental disabilites are challenged in other ways on the horse by a lesson specifically prepared for them by their instructor.
