Description

YWCA of the Coulee Region-- Program Descriptions

A-PRO (Adaptive Physical Recreation Opportunities) provides recreational opportunities for individuals of all ages with varying physical abilities.

CASA for Kids (Court Appointed Special Advocate) serves children who have been determined by a court to be in need of protection or services. This program trains volunteers to advocate for the best interests of the child and monitor the child's progress toward a safe, stable, and permanent home.

YWCA Coulee Region Rapids Swim Club is a program which provides youth 5-18 years of age an opportunity to practice and compete in a team swimming atmosphere, resulting in increased personal growth and team camaraderie. Swimming lessons will also be offered for youth ages 3 and older.

Teen Services Bridges is a program designed to provide one on one mentoring, as well as group situations, that will connect at-risk teenage women to resources, teach basic life skills, and concentrate on building a bridge of success after graduation from high school.

Mediation and Restorative Services is a program that provides victims of crimes the opportunity to ask "Why me?" along with other questions they may have. Besides holding the offender accountable for the act, this program also gives the offender the opportunity to apologize to all those who have been harmed by the crime. Together the victim and the offender come up with concrete ways for the offender to repair the harm that has been done.

Ruth House The YWCA Ruth House is a home for women who are homeless and single and also transitioning from substance abuse treatment facilities.

Transitional Housing provides up to six women who are homeless and single with children the opportunity to live in their own apartment for up to two years. This program also requires women to work with a case manager on a weekly basis; attend weekly educational/social groups with other women and children in the program; and be matched up with a mentor form the community.

Women's Community Based Programis a jail alternative for women who would otherwise be serving a sentence at the La Crosse county Jail. This program is designed to keep women out of jail by enhancing their self-sufficiency and educational/work skills. We also hope to find positive females in the community to stop by the home and connect with the women through various interests, skills, and experiences.

Women's Athletic Leagues are available for women ages 18-110. Currently the YWCA offers a Women's Basketball League on Sunday afternoons during the fall and spring months.
