Mobile Meals helps preserve the health,dignity, and independence of homebound adults by delivering special diet meals.
Description
Since 1970, Mobile Meals has provided special diet meals to homebound adults who are limited by disability, age, convalescence, or illness. Mobile Meals began operation with 8 delivery routes serving 40 clients out of four food preparation facilities . The organization has grown considerably in the past 41 years. In 2011, Mobile Meals operated 28 delivery routes with an average client base of 220, asd served 45,000 meal trays from 8 food preparation facilities.
Clients are referred to the program by their physicians, other community agencies, or they can refer themselves. An interviewer visits the potential client. Clients are eligible if they are homebound and have special dietary needs. Clients are provided with two meals a day Monday through Friday, usually a hot and cold meal. Meals are prepared by eight differents, local healthcare facilities. Volunteers deliver the meals to over 220 clients a day. Each month, Mobile Meals supplements the cost of meals with financial support from individuals, groups, business, organizations, foundations, and grants.
