The Mission of Greater Works Youth Empowerment Center is to empower LGBTQI2-S (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, and Two-Spirited) youth between the ages of 12-24 who are have runaway, homeless, at-risk, in foster care, and the juvenile justice system by providing educational, health and wellness, social services, and support programs coupled with short and long term residential safe space. We are devoted to helping these youth develop a healthy self-esteem and respect for themselves and others, establishing a platform for diversity to be understood as well as embraced. We are a body of advocates who will consistently work to ensure that all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, have full access and equality in public policy.
Provide stability and shelter to LGBTQI2-S (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, and Two-Spirited) homeless/runaway youth between the ages of 12-24, offering housing options ranging from emergency to long-term housing. Shelter participants will work with a case manager to create an individualized service plan based on the principles of trauma-informed care that is designed to help them progress towards reunification with family or self-sufficiency. Provide individual and small group instruction to help youth obtain their GED (General Education Development or high school equivalency degree), re-enroll in high school or complete remaining coursework needed to graduate, and explore and apply for post-secondary educational opportunities at colleges or technical schools.
