Mission Statement

The mission of Young Men In Transition (YMIT) is to play an integral role in the conversion of young men into productive, well rounded individuals. Primarily, through structured mentoring, academic tutoring, and social skills training we aim to assist the young men with developing and enhancing character, while also encouraging accountability, integrity, dignity, honesty, positive attitude, self-respect and respect for others.

Description

In October 2007, Sterling Jackson founder of Universal Human Services Inc., partnered with Wayne County to form Young Men in Transition. Young Men in Transition is a male mentoring program targeting school age inner-city youth. YMIT was created with the philosophy that every human being is born with a purpose, the capacity to succeed and the desire for greatness. Every child should have the opportunity at fulfilling their prophecy however, experiences, circumstances and issues beyond that young child's control, either increase or decrease their ability to fulfill their intended purpose. As a child our instincts direct us to look for a guide through life's pathways. Usually it's a parent however; sometimes there is a need for a surrogate, a mentor. YMIT serves as a navigation system to lead them to their awakening with an emphasis of achievement and goal setting.
