The mission of Partners Mentoring Youth is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships between positive adult role models and youth facing challenges in their personal, social and academic lives. We serve youth, ages 7-17, who face significant challenges in their life. In 2015 we served 385 youth. Of the 385 youth served: -93% face mental health issues either themselves or within their immediate family -81% live in low income or poverty level homes -75% have been victims of some type of abuse, neglect, or domestic violence -70% struggle academically -58% lived in single parent households -44% were affected by substance abuse -100% have the potential to succeed in life -100% deserve to have a Senior Partner who invests in that potential
Partners Mentoring Youth is a local United Way non-profit agency. Our mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships between positive adult role models and youth facing challenges in their personal, social, and academic lives.
We are the most comprehensive one-to-one youth mentoring program in Northern Colorado, exceptional at matching youth (Junior Partners) with volunteer mentors (Senior Partners) and supporting their relationship. We provide 24/7 case support, mentor training sessions, and offer interesting activities to do throughout Greeley and Colorado.
Mentoring is a well-documented prevention strategy for positive youth development. Consistent with national research behind mentoring, we know that our mentoring programs work. Our evaluation results show that after just one year in our mentoring program, our youth have:
- Greater sense of hope
- Increased self-esteem
- Increased academic achievement
- Less delinquent behavior and substance use
Our youth, boys and girls ages 7-17, are referred by professionals in the community (school counselors, therapists, etc.) because they are experiencing circumstances that put them at risk of not reaching their full potential in life (poverty, abuse, mental health issues, family instability, etc.) They are great kids with a great potential to succeed, but need a little extra support.
