Description
Huntington's Disease is a hereditary, degenerative brain disorder that slowly diminishes an individual's ability to walk, think, feel, talk, and reason. The disease usually strikes young adults between the ages of 30 and 40, but children as young as two have developed the disease. Right now one in 10,000 Americans have this disease and another 300,000 are at risk. There is currently no effective treatment or cure. Money raised by the HDSA Wissconsin Chapter will go directly to help research possible treatments and cures, local patient and family care, and local family and community education in the state of Wisconsin. On a larger scale, HD's coordinated national and international research will also benefit people with diseases related to Huntington's - diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and many dystrophies.
