Mission Statement
To provide experiential education and encounters with Pacific wild salmon to connect students and adults with nature and empower community engagement.
Description
World Salmon Council manages the award-winning Salmon Watch environmental education program in the greater Portland metro and Columbia River Gorge regions. Using salmon as the focal point, Salmon Watch provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary education in the classroom, field study and in-stream observation, and community service learning projects.
For the 2017-18 school year, Salmon Watch will engage more than 1,500 middle and high schools, including providing 40+ field trips.
If we want our youth to have scientific and environmental literacy, value their natural heritage, and make informed decisions about their communities as they become adults, we must give them opportunities to understand and relate to the natural world on a personal level.
