We'd love to have your help at our non-profit brick and mortar bookstore, Rabbit Hole Books! Rabbit Hole Books is an outreach effort to get affordable books into the community year-round and to that end, we sell about 40,000 books a year at $1 each, in addition to a nifty array of cards, gifts, socks and so forth. In 2023 we were voted Best of Dayton in our category. The shop is located downtown at 29 West First Street (between Main Street and Ludlow and across the street from Christ Episcopal Church) and is open every day from 12pm to 7pm. There is adjacent free parking. We are looking for volunteers for regular 4-hour shifts, at least twice a month. Retail experience is helpful, but not essential. Literary knowledge and love of books is a real plus, and it is helpful if you enjoy working with the public. Volunteers may be subject to a background check. If you're interested in volunteering at the bookstore, email us at daytonbookfair@gmail.com with your availability and we'll schedule a time to get to know you! Rabbit Hole Books is a project of the Dayton Book Fair, a non-profit organization that provides grants for other local non-profit organizations through the sale of donated books at our November Dayton Book Fair held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds.

Use your passion for books to help the Book Fair Foundation! We're so grateful to have many thousands of books donated to us by the local community, but we need your help to sort through them all in our Triage department! Folks working Triage scan our incoming donations to look for treasures, separate them into a few basic categories (hardcovers, paperbacks, children’s, etc.), and then box and deliver them to those departments. This is often a fast-paced and fun environment to work in, because you just never know what’s going to turn up at the front door! Please note that this task involves standing, using a computer and moving heavy boxes of books. Your assistance will help us raise money to benefit Dayton-area non-profits and make sure that our books find loving homes. Our beneficiaries for the upcoming 53rd Annual Dayton Book Fair are the Bach Society of Dayton, the Beaver Creek Wetlands Association and Have a Gay Day. We’re open for volunteers and donations year-round at the below times: Tuesdays, 10 am-4 pm Wednesdays, 10 am-4 pm Thursdays, 10 am-4 pm Saturdays, 10 am-4 pm Please feel free to contact us or drop by so we can give you the tour! Use your passion for books to help the Book Fair Foundation! We're so grateful to have many treasures donated to us by the local community, but we need your help to offer them for sale to online shoppers! We have thousands of titles for sale on eBay, and have many more waiting in our treasure chest. Our Researchers investigate the value of books and then pass them on to our Listers who create detailed online listings complete with photographs. If you have experience with online sales, or you’d like to learn how to sell books online, come and see us! Organization Information
Mission Statement
"The mission of the Book Fair Foundation, Inc. is to receive and collect donated books which we resell through an annual book fair and other channels in order to raise money for a variety of charitable interests. In addition, we also redistribute donated books to schools, clinics, nursing homes, soup kitchens, the county jail, and other entities where books are needed."
Description
The Book Fair Foundation collects donations of books, CDs, DVDs, records, puzzles and games year-round which are priced, sorted and packed for our annual sale in November at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. Each year we choose three local non-profit groups to share from the proceeds of the sale. We have supported local groups for over five years; we have 45 years of supporting a single charity, for which we raised over two million dollars.
