Mission Statement

Cardinal Cushing Centers is a place where people of all ages and all abilities find possibility, opportunity and hope.

Description

At the Cardinal Cushing Centers, we ensure that all people with significant intellectual disabilities have every opportunity to live full and meaningful lives. We support students and adults through a variety of programs, led by seasoned experts in the fields of education, employment training, residential care, ancillary and recreational services.

Guided by the vision of Richard Cardinal Cushing and the values of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, Cardinal Cushing Centers has grown from a residential school to a thriving community. Our organization operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year in four different central locations - two in Hanover and two in Braintree - as well as in 11 community residences throughout the South Shore. We provide education, employment training, residential, therapeutic, and recreational programs to students age 3 to 22, welcoming students from several other countries as well as throughout Massachusetts and the United States. We support graduates of our school and other adults by providing a range of services including housing, supported living, employment training and therapeutic day programs. We are a resource for caregivers of adults with disabilities and offer robust community programs for individuals with and without disabilities. In total we support over 600 individuals a year of all ages and all abilities.

A corner stone of our Hanover community is the Cushing Marketplace. Doubling as employment training sites, we have several businesses that bring in customers from the surrounding towns: the Cushing Trader, which sells student and adult-designed jewelry and artwork, a Greenhouse, the Bass Village Café, the Timeless Treasures Thrift Store, a Bottle Redemption Center and the Iron Kettle, a restaurant serving lunch twice a week.

In Braintree, we support a unique partnership that is integral to both our mission and our vision for the future. The Braintree Meeting House Montessori School rents space from us and our two student-bodies have the opportunity to learn from one another on a daily basis.
