Mission Statement

We are dedicated to the formal and informal education of students and the public in all aspects of ocean sciences, incorporating research and conservation into their lives.

The primary mission of The Society for Ocean Sciences is to inform the public of the delicate relationship between humans and the world's oceans. The Society aims to instill a deeper understanding of the current issues affecting our oceans and marine resources.

Ocean sciences are a unique interplay among biology, chemistry, geology and physics, and thus form a framework from which to enhance the entire scope of science education. We seek to spark the interest of students in science, ocean science in particular.

Description

The Society for Ocean Sciences is dedicated to promoting preservation and an appreciation of marine environments through education, research and conservation.

More than seventy percent of the world's surface is dominated by marine environments. Less than five percent has been explored! The Society for Ocean Sciences invites you to join our quest for knowledge and exploration.
