Mission Statement

Dallas-based Orchestra of New Spain is committed to reintroducing the world to the neglected repertory of the Spanish 17th and 18th centuries and to the exploration of the Hispanic heritage of which it is a part. This is achieved through high quality, historically informed performances on period instruments, ongoing academic research, the continued search for forgotten repertory, and programs that educate the public, particularly through educational presentations in schools, on the importance of the repertory and its broader cultural implications.

Description

The Orchestra of New Spain brings to life neglected musical works of Spanish Golden Age court and public theaters. Each of the six season concerts are filled with discovery of glorious and enchanting music and its rich historical context. The Orchestra performs at a variety of venues each season, and regularly collaborates with other arts and community organizations. Each season is augmented by 10-12 school presentations (up to 32 next year!) around the DFW Metroplex and other performances around the state of Texas and the nation. Thanks to the financial support of key Dallas foundations, the Orchestra is poised for a time of growth, both administrative and artistic.
