The Lead Safe America Foundation was founded March 31, 2011 by our Executive Director, Tamara Rubin and our founding Board of Directors.

We created the Foundation in response to Tamara’s years of advocacy work since her children were poisoned in 2005. After her children were poisoned Tamara found that parents across the country were facing the same challenges she faced when her children were first poisoned: difficulty finding information, difficulty communicating with pediatricians about the issue, difficulty finding resources and a near impossibility to find emergency short-term alternative lead-safe housing once a child has been poisoned.

LSAF was founded to help alleviate the challenges faced by so many parents of lead-poisoned children. We offer emergency intervention and support to families whose children have been diagnosed as positive for lead in their blood. We engage in outreach and education for the primary prevention of early childhood lead poisoning. And finally - and perhaps most important - we provide support to parent-advocates so the web of information has a framework that can spread across the country with parents getting the information and resources they need and then turning around to - in turn- help other parents in the same situation.
