Mission Statement

Rippling Waters Organic Farm is dedicated to building community around the important issues of food security, local economies, sustainability and the right to nutritious food for all. We do this through education, community projects and by contributing to the local food economy.

Rippling Waters Farm is a 12-acre, organic vegetable farm located on the banks of the Saco River in Southern Maine.

We grow organic herbs, annuals, perennials and vegetables for sale and donation in local markets.

The farm produces more than $115,000 worth of plants and produce each year. Uses permaculture, companion planting, and less till methods. Farm staff grow produce for 4 farmers' markets, wholesale accounts, a CSA project and the Senior Farm Share Program.

The farm also donates food to local food pantries giving away more than $5,000 worth of food each year to low-income families. This goal - donating 10% of the produce grown - was achieved with the help of a long list of adult and school-age volunteers who provided thousands of hours of community service.

One of our programs is the Saco Valley Food Connection which links food producers and consumers in a common effort to grow organic produce for the school lunch program, CSA and Senior Farm Share members, low-income residents served by the local emergency food system and local markets.

It increases the community's self-reliance in providing for its own food needs by establishing school gardens at two elementary schools, a greenhouse at the Bonny Eagle Middle School and at two senior housing sites. It also reduces hunger by infusing an additional 20,000 pounds of fresh, locally grown, organic produce each summer into the local emergency food system.

More than 750 kids from MSAD 6 along with adults and senior citizens will be engaged in hands on learning activities that will connect them to the landscape, food and farmers who grow food. A summer apprentice program provides life skills, employment opportunities and personal growth experiences for area youth at risk of poverty.
