Mission Statement

The mission of SouthernCare is to assure that residents of its service locales have access to a program of care that enhances the quality of life for the terminally ill patients and their families. Care for the whole person is emphasized by providing physical, spiritual and emotional supprt to all medically appropriate persons without discrimination. Efforts are centered on meeting needs by offering highly individualized, compassionate care in the peron's home or a home like setting. Southenncare recognizes the value of dedicated staff and volunteers and affirms each as individuals, as well as members of the Care team. SouthernCare is dedicated to enhancing the care of all in the community by education, and by example, servE as a symbolic reminder that life is to be lived until you die.

Description

There are two services volunteers can be apart of:

* Direct Patient Care - Volunteers will be assigned to patients and families by offering direct services according to the patien/family plan of care. These services include: respite for family members, light homemaking chores, shopping, transporting, meal preparation, phone calls, visits, etc.

* Adiministration - Volunteers will work in the hospice office to help with filing, posting, writing notes, making phone calls, obtaining supplies, making charts, Xeroxing and other clerical duties as needed.

Volunteer Coordinator will go out with volunteer for the first patient visit to welcome patient to the SouthernCare family and to inform them about the Volunteer Program. The Volunteer Coordinator along with the volunteer will assess patient and family of other needs they may have for volunteer and family.
