Mission Statement

The William King Museum of Art is a visual arts institution and a cultural cornerstone of our Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee region. The museum’s mission is to present its constituents and visitors with the following artistic experiences:

  • Bring rotating exhibits of works of art from around the nation and the world to our diverse audience
  • Showcase and preserve our cultural heritage
  • Use art as a tool to educate both children and adults and enrich lives
  • Serve as a museum showcase for our regional artists

Description

We are a nonprofit museum. The only facility of its kind serving far Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee. WKMA features museum standard galleries showcasing art of the world, region and contemporary art. Galleries change every three to six months providing a broad view of art created by our curators and others that come from to outside the area.

Exhibition related programs are offered throughout the year, through lectures, festivals, and artists receptions.

WKMA offers a wide range of classes to the public in the way of adult and youth classes. Some of the adult classes offered are clay, photography, and printmaking. Youth classes are held both In-house and Outreach programs. Art Camp for children is also offered. Our art programs meet Virginia's SOL reguirements. Classes consist of art projects along with tours or lectures of exhibits.
