Mission Statement

Amity Cares seeks to provide safe, affordable housing for low income families in the New Haven area by partnering with Habitat for Humanity. We believe that a group of neighbors, friends and students can join as a group to alleviate poverty housing and as a result transform neighborhoods in blighted areas of urban New Haven; one house, one neighborhood at a time.

Description

Amity Cares is a volunteer group that works with Habitat for Humanity. Volunteers are from Bethany, Orange, Woodbridge and Westville and come from churches and synagogues, civic groups, schools and unaffiliated individuals. Our goals are to provide the fundraising and volunteer construction support for a family identified by New Haven Habitat for Humanity. Our group is responsible for raising $65,000 per home. We have built two homes as a group already, and are just now starting on the fundraising for our third home. Once we have raised $25,000, we begin work on the home and work alongside the family selected by the New Haven Habitat office. It is wonderful to get to know the family who will realize the dream of homeownership. There are many types of opportunities if you join this diverse group of volunteers. We need of course, construction help once work on the house begins, but also need help with fundraising, PR, computer/web site, outreach, to name only a few. We meet every third Thursday evening at 6:30 at Scoop This at 180 Amity Rd in Woodbridge. Our web site has more info--www.amitycares.org. Check us out, we are friendly, fun group.
