Mission Statement

Our mission is to foster the creative abilities of men and women in rural Ecuador, encouraging the sharing of knowledge and the promotion of citizen rights in order to create organisational and technical projects that may improve the quality of life of rural communities, laying the foundations for collective responsibility, equality, solidarity and respect for nature. The work we undertake is essential for the community in terms of taking care of the environment and establishing a sustainable future.

Description

The Fundación Brethren y Unida is an Ecuadorian non-profit organisation established in 1953 to serve campesino families in the development of social, education, and economic alternatives to better their lives with solidarity and respect for the environment. For the last ten years, we have been working with youth on environmental programs, re-forestation efforts, cultural exchange, and volunteer placements in our surrounding communities. We welcome you or your University to join us in our efforts to forge connections throughout the world, equipping young people with the skills they need to be global leaders, and offering them opportunities to enact positive change.
The FBU's main role is as a facilitator of reforestation an sustainable agricultural projects within different areas of Ecuador, but we also operate as an organic farm, the Hacienda Picalquí, cultivating fruit, vegetables and livestock, whilst also training and employing methods of sustainable agriculture.
