Mission Statement
The mission of the Musicians of Saint Clare is twofold: first, to perform great choral works from the 10th to the 21st centuries; and second, to be a sign of peace in a time of increasing international uncertainty and aggression.
Description
The Musicians of Saint Clare is a chamber choir of approximately 50 voices. We specialize in the a cappella performance of Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony, although we do at least one concert per year with orchestra, singing a major work, such as the Morten Lauridsen Lux Aeterna. We try to give our audiences, not just an excellent musical experience, but also a meditative one. People tell us that they are edified and supported through our work, and I couldn't receive a better compliment. We encourage a familial relationship amongst choir members. We all help one another. You could say we have been through life and death together. Our volunteers would share in that dynamic. Servant-leadership is a prime value for the Choir. Even the singing techniques that we use encourage the choir member to 'sing into' the voices around them. It is a marvelous example of cooperative existence. I think I am justifiably proud of every one of them.
The Choir typically gives four concerts per year locally (in Colorado), and we tour internationally every other year. The next tour is planned for October 2009 and will include the cities of: Salzburg, Vienna, Geneva, Milan, Florence, Assisi, and Rome.
