Shuang Wen Academy Network (SWAN) helps students from varied social, economic and ethnic backgrounds develop proficiency in Mandarin Chinese, and acquire a greater understanding of Chinese Cultural, so they can become better global citizens in an increasingly competitive and demanding international environment.
While providing early language learning opportunities that take full advantage of both traditional and innovative teaching techniques, advanced technologies and strategic partnerships, SWAN seeks to share its best practices and replicate its success.
Founded in 1996 as a non-profit, community-based organization, Shuang Wen Academy Network (SWAN), proposed to the New York City Department of Education (formerly Board of Education) the Shuang Wen School, which was later established in 1998 as a New York City public school. SWAN’s long term vision is to prepare students in both English and Mandarin, American and Chinese cultures, in order that they may participate fully in an increasingly relevant global environment.
SWAN’s After-School and Summer Programs have been providing a Mandarin Language and Chinese Culture Program. The goal of SWAN is to conduct Afterschool and Summer Programs by providing an enrichment experience where we deliver a strong balance of Chinese language and cultural learning.
