Help victims escape abuse by volunteering to drive them to safety! You choose the distance you're willing to travel - whether across town or across the country - and Families to Freedom handles the rest. Pick-up from a safe public place, usually in Houston, going to a safe shelter or family home far away. Volunteer safety is our #1 priority! This mission is important, but impossible without YOU as our volunteer driver. Transporting a survivor traveling with children? We provide and install child car seats. Worried about the cost of gas, tolls, food and lodging? We pay it. Don't want to use your personal car? Use one of ours. Not sure you'll be up for a trip when one comes along? We get calls for service every day from survivors trying to start a new life, but without volunteer drivers we can only honor a few. Drivers like you are needed! Assist victims fleeing from their abusers by driving them to safety! You choose the distance you're willing to travel - whether across town or across the country - and Families to Freedom handles the rest. You just need to be 21+, have a good driving record, pass a background check, and a heart to help. We ONLY allow our volunteers to pick-up survivors in a safe public place, usually in Houston. Volunteer safety is our #1 priority. Transporting a survivor traveling with children? We prepare the car seat for you. Worried about the cost of gas, tolls, food and lodging? We pay it. Don't want to use your personal car? Use one of ours. Not sure you'll be up for a trip when one comes along? Decline any drive you wish with no pressure from us. Do you have a few spare hours in the day? Want to help victims go from crisis to recovery after domestic violence? This volunteer opportunity might be perfect for you! Families to Freedom transports victims of domestic abuse to safety. This often means a short ride across Houston to get victims to a domestic violence shelter. Weekday daytime volunteer drivers are in high demand! You can choose to accept or decline a drive - no pressure! We arrange survivor pick-ups in a safe public place - usually in or near the Houston area Many of our survivors travel with children - we prepare car seats so you don't have to Families to Freedom provides the vehicle (or use your own) and covers all travel costs! We need volunteers aged 21+ with a good driving record and clean criminal background. Pick up domestic violence survivors from a safe pickup place (like a shelter store, or hospital), and drive them to a safe destination (like a shelter or a family member's home). Have an Adventure - Travel across the Gulf Coast, the state of Texas, and the U.S. -- Have adventures you'll remember for a lifetime, and touch lives along the way. We also have short drive options that would occur only within the greater Houston area. Change Lives - Want to be directly involved in a life saving, life changing service? Our volunteers support victims in a direct, meaningful way! They assist in offering victims a fresh start in a safe place. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS WHO: +Ages 21+. +Have a good driving record. +Can pass a background check. +Have time to drive survivors of domestic violence from a safe pickup place in the Gulf Coast region to a family home or shelter, either near or far away. HOW FAR DO VOLUNTEERS DRIVE? + Greater Houston Road Warrior - Drive a new survivor to a domestic violence shelter, all within the Greater Houston area. + Gulf Coast Region Road Warrior - Drive a new survivor to a domestic violence shelter 1 to 2 hours from the Houston area. + Multi-State Road Warrior - Drive a new survivor to another state; this may take several hours or a few days, depending on the destination.
