The primary goal of MYSO of Atlanta is instill in its members, a love for music that will stay with them. We strive to further the music education and experiences of its members. Repertoire is specifically chosen by our conductors to challenge and broaden the scope of performance experiences for our musicians.
MYSO of Atlanta is committed to developing the educational opportunities of Atlanta’s talented musicians. We continue to expand the music programs available to the MYSO students by offering public performances, sectional coaching, chamber music ensemble training, scholarship awards for continuing music education, and travel opportunities.
Travel has become an exciting and integral part of our musical education program. MYSO receives invitations to perform in many exciting venues beyond the Atlanta area. These include the Youth Performance series at Carnegie Hall, where, on April 14, 2002, MYSO played to a standing ovation!
Recent trips have taken MYSO members to the Big Apple, the Midwest Band Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, IL, GMEA in Savannah, GA, the Piccolo Spoletto Festival in Charleston, SC, the Super Bowl XXXIV Halftime Show in Atlanta, and overseas to Beijing, Nanjing, and Shanghai China, and Vienna, Prague, Budapest and Costa Rica.
