Mission Statement

Dominican Sisters Family Health Service (DSFHS) is a community-based, certified, nonprofit home health and family service agency.

The mission of DSFHS is to provide compassionate, professional, holistic, and family-focused care to persons in need. Special emphasis is given to care of the poor and the marginalized.

Our unique heritage began in 1879 when Mary Walsh and a dedicated group of women brought needed home health and social services to struggling immigrant families in New York City.

The Infant-Toddler/Parents Program is one component of DSFHS. We provide early childhood education and care for vulnerable, high-risk young children (birth to 3 years old), as well as comprehensive, wraparound services for their families living in Mott Haven in the Bronx.

Description

DSFHS programs address the critical health, social service, and family support needs of the South Bronx.

Our comprehensive services include a certified home health agency and long term home health care; services to families living with HIV/AIDS; a prevention program through a contract with New York City Administration for Children's Services; social work and case management programs; walk-in/crisis intervention /outreach services; and the Infant-Toddler/Parents Program.

The Infant-Toddler/Parents Program (ITPP) promotes age-appropriate child development, prevents developmental deterioration due to high environmental risk, and promotes positive parenting skills.

We make a significant difference in the quality of the lives of the families participating, increase school-preparedness, prevent development deterioration in young children, improve parenting skills, and improve the overall well-being of the families.

Families have relationships with our program for many years and we become a "second home" to families, giving us a unique opportunity to facilitate lasting changes. The ITPP becomes a haven where families practice skills essential for raising healthy children, receive support from teachers and peers, and see their children grow in a caring environment.
