Mission Statement

Operation: Kid Equip's mission is to provide children with the basic educational supplies needed to be successful in school and in life.

Description

Operation: Kid Equip's long term vision is a community where every child's basic needs are met.

To accomplish this in the short term we provide free school supplies, books and dictionaries to children who are at-risk.

To effect long term community improvement, we work to increase awareness of the issues facing school-aged children to help them succeed in school and in life.

Most of our work is done through the OKE Teachers' Annex, a free store for teachers. Set up like a thrift store, teachers come and shop on behalf of the children in their classroom who are economically disadvantaged.

Even though it is setup like a store, everything in the Teachers' Annex is available free of charge.

I have been volunteering with Operation: Kid Equip (OKE) for the past six months and am impressed with the amount of dedication and drive they put into their organization. OKE always put the children's needs first and it's truly rewarding knowing that all the work we do will benefit them, and help enhance their experience in school. It is definitely a non-profit one should consider volunteering with!

VOLUNTEERING AT OPERATION KID EQUIP IS EASY! You can sit and sort books or stand and organize shelves with school supplies. Many gentlemen come and love unloading trucks with donated supplies - cases of crayons, spiral notebooks, markers, etc. I have seen small groups come and really have a good time replentishing the shelves so that teachers have the most selection to choose from. Remember, these teachers are coming on their time to get needed supplies for their students. The atmosphere is always positive and uplifting - especially when you get to learn some of the amazing stories!

Operation: Kid Equip is a great place to volunteer. They take the time to prepare for their volunteers and have appropriate jobs ready to be completed. You're never sitting around waiting for them to decide what you can do to help! As you continue to volunteer, those jobs change which allows you to learn more about the organization and how it is operated. Regular volunteers are given jobs with more responsibility and impact. I also can't say enough about how great ALL the OKE workers/staff are. Definintely welcoming...

I have utilized the services of OKE. They fulfill a huge need for Teachers who are unable to afford classroom materials that enhance the student experience! I depend on OKE. There are projects that I would never have been able to complete had I not had the materials acquired at OKE! This organization completes their mission. I signed up for your service so that I could volunteer to an organization that has affected me personally. I want to give back.
