Formerly known as "Dylan's Run", the event was created to build awareness about Autism in the Milwaukee area and to generate dollars for Autism research and outreach programs. When the event began in 2001, the rate of Autism was 1 out of 500 children. We wanted to highlight the disability and allow families and individuals affected by Autism to have an opportunity to come together and show their support for each other. That first year resulted in 354 participants and has grown in media support, financial support and participant support to become largest single-day gathering to support Autism in Wisconsin. NOW - With your help we will continue that growth into the A-Team Fun Walk/Run for Autism! We need to continue what we’ve started. The incidence of Autism is now 1 in 54 per the Centers for Disease Control, 2020. As a result, the number of families needing support is growing. Most participants of this event have been fundraising to help our neighbors, our schools, our public safety officers and our entire community through our programs and services. 7 AM TO 9:30 AM EVENT SET-UP (Help unloading/delivering supplies, placing signage, setting up different zones/tents/stations/tables/chairs) 9 AM TO 12:30 PM REGISTRATION/CHECK IN (Help check in participants/sponsors, hand out wristbands and T-shirts) 9:30 AM TO 12:30PM GENERAL EVENT/ZONE SUPPORT (Assist in assigned area as directed by event director such as bounce house supervisor, wristband checker at VIP zone, and other ad hoc jobs) 12:30 PM TO 2 PM EVENT TEARDOWN (Help with taking down tents and stands, and loading up all packed supplies to clear the grounds)

Autism United of Wisconsin is hosting a week-long camp brought to us by the iCan Shine’s Bike program. The goal of the program is to teach individuals with disabilities how to ride a conventional bike and become a lifelong independent rider! This year's location will once again be at Forest Park Middle School in the Franklin School District. The dates of the camp are: July 28-August 1, 2024. Volunteer orientation for the camp will be on Sunday, July 27 at Forest Park Middle School from 4-5 p.m. Attendance at the orientation is highly encouraged. Ideally, each volunteer will be scheduled for a 90-minute session with their assigned rider, each of the five days of camp plus a 15 minute daily briefing before camp begins. If you cannot volunteer for all five days of the camp or at the same session all five days, please still consider volunteering. We will work with you and your schedule so that you can experience this awesome volunteer opportunity! iCan Bike uses a fleet of adapted bicycles, a specialized instructional program and trained staff members to teach individuals with disabilities how to ride a bike. Riders attend their scheduled 75-minute session at the same time each day for five consecutive days (M - F). All participants are physically assisted and encouraged by two volunteer "spotters" throughout the duration of the one-week camp. As the camp progresses, the adapted bike is adjusted to gradually introduce more instability in an effort to challenge riders at their own individual pace. The week concludes with a touching and inspiring award ceremony! iCan Bike riders are children ages eight (8) and up, teens and sometimes adults who have a diagnosed disability but are able to walk without assistive devices and sidestep from side to side. Volunteers will receive a volunteer t-shirt so that they are clearly visible. Volunteer Requirements for Bike Helpers: Must be at least 15 years old (unless accompanied by an adult) We prefer that you are able to attend for 90 minutes at the same time each day of the five days of camp. There will also be 15 minutes of training at the beginning of the session, and 15 minutes of debriefing at the end of the session. If you cannot attend the camp all five days, please still register to volunteer and we will work out a schedule with you. Must be able to provide physical, emotional and motivational support to the assigned rider. Must be able and willing to do exercise for a great cause. Expect light jogging/brisk walking the first day that will progress to active running as the riders gain confidence. * *If these requirements are too strenuous, we have other volunteer opportunities for this event including our check in table and general event support. Session times: 8:30 - 9:45 a.m. 10:05 - 11:20 a.m. 11:40 a.m. - 12:55 p.m. 2:00 - 3:15 p.m. 3:35 - 4:50 p.m. Important Details: Please dress comfortably with sneakers and active clothes you can jog around in! Open-toe shoes are not permitted. Bring a water bottle, but we will also have water on hand. You will receive a t-shirt on the first day of Camp. Please at least plan on wearing your t-shirt on Tuesday and Friday during Camp week for our media days. If you are unable to attend orientation on Sunday, visit the following link for the ORIENTATION VIDEO prior to the start of camp. Maps, parking instructions and where to enter to sign in will be emailed a week prior to the event. Sign up to make a difference in someone's life today!
