Mission Statement

Spiral Q Puppet Theater seeks to mobilize communities and illuminate the victories, frustrations and possibilities of living in Philadelphia and similar urban settings through the construction of large-scale giant puppet parades, toy theater and neighborhood pageantry.

Through its puppet parades and pageants, Spiral Q is resurrecting and reclaiming an almost forgotten form of people's theater to amplify and unite the power and vitality of those working for change through art-making, protes, and civic theater.

Description

Established in 1996, Spiral Q produces giant puppet parades that raise social consciousness and connect individuals and organizations throughout the city. Working from the belief that freedom of speech is both an inalienable right and a collective responsibility, Spiral Q strives to use the age-old arts of puppet-making and theatrical pageantry as vehicles for social change. This same belief has driven Spiral Q's commitment to creating a more perfect society--one that valuse listening as highly as it values speaking, values diversity as highly as it values unity, and believes that nurturing creativity in ALL will ensure that thinking outside the (cardboard) box will happen for years to come.

Spiral Q has five areas of programming that we are eager to match volunteers with: Original Works, Education Initiatives, the Neighborhood Parades and Pageants, Justice Works, and the Living Loft Puppet Museum.
