Mission Statement

To provide a tangible link to our community's history through the portrayal of the 19th Century Riddick Family home.

Description

Riddick's Folly, Suffolk's only house museum, functions not only as a historic property, (Virginia Civil War Trail, National Register of Historic Places, and Virginia Historic Landmark) but as a cultural center as well. The property is owned by the City of Suffolk and administered by Riddick's Folly, Inc., a non-profit 501 (C) organization governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors. There are two paid staff members. Throughout the year, Riddick's Folly hosts a variety of educational and culturally diverse programming for our community. Most of these events are free. The staff is also engaged in continual research in order to present the most accurate interpretation of the Riddick family and their community during the 19 th century. During the past year, our attendance has increased over 40% due to the popularity of programs such as American Girl Special Events, Historic Craft Demonstrations, Living History Vignettes, and thought provoking changing exhibits.
