Mission Statement

The Starr County Fair Association, Inc., a non-profit corporation, is a community resource that exists to educate and promote the culture and heritage of Starr County, Texas, to provide a quality county fair for the residents of Starr County and to enhance educational opportunities available at the fairgrounds with emphasis on youth and agriculture.

Description

The Starr County Fair is a week long countywide event held annually in Rio Grande City for more than forty years. Culminating the first weekend in March at the Starr County Fairgrounds just off of East Highway 83 across from the historic Fort Ringgold, the event is a livestock show and more! The kickoff event, usually held the last Saturday in February, is a Wild Game dinner featuring wild game cooked in a variety of ways by local organizations with beverages and music provided Silent and live auctions help raise funds to provide scholarships for up to nine seniors from the three Starr County high schools. The youth of Starr County, ranging in age from preschool through high school seniors, enter projects in many competitive divisions, including showing livestock they have raised, arts and crafts, art, baking, farm shop, and educational posters. There is even competition for adults in the art and arts and crafts divisions. Other highlights include a Saturday morning parade at 10:00, dancing under the stars to live music on Friday and Saturday nights, a carnival, and fun events for children. The fair is run entirely by volunteers who give of their time and efforts to make this event possible. Sponsors are needed to help support youth projects, and for giving our young people the chance to shine, individual and corporate sponsors are called the "Stars for STARR" in the Starr County Fair.
