The mission of Lone Star Boxer Rescue is to rescue and re-home boxers that come to our organization from shelters, as strays and from owners who need to surrender their boxer due to life changing circumstances. Lone Star Boxer Rescue provides these animals with veterinary care, spay/neuter, vaccinations, food, temporary foster homes and placement in a carefully screened forever home where they will receive a second chance at life and an abundance of love.
Lone Star Boxer Rescue was started in 1999 out of a love for the breed and a tremendous demand in the Houston area for alternatives to local kill shelters. Each year, our all volunteer organization has continued to grow. We have added new volunteers, new foster homes, and hundreds of new dogs. In 2007, we were able to re-home 231 dogs. These dogs come into our program with multiple issues. Each of these dogs would have a very high probability of euthanasia if they were surrendered at the local shelters. This is because many of them are unaltered and have some other medical issue such as heartworms, skin conditions, broken bones, or broken spirits. Lone Star Boxer Rescue has contacts within each of the local shelters and animal control organizations. These groups reach out to us to come and take animals before they are euthanized. Our organization provides these animals with veterinary care, spay/neuter, vaccinations, and temporary foster homes. Each of our foster families employs training techniques to get the dogs acclimated to a home situation. This includes potty training, walking on a leash, and crate training.
